Railay Beach, Krabi – What Dreams Are Made Of

There are very few people that would need to think long and hard about whether or not they would go on vacation to Thailand. It’s reasonably priced, has delicious food and warm weather, plus the scenery will take your breath away. But exploring all of Thailand might not be an option for you, so we’ve narrowed it down to the one place with it all – Railay Beach in Krabi. It has everything you could every want from a vacation destination and then some!

A Railay Beach for You

If you’re looking for a vacation that revolves around lounging on a picturesque beach, Railay Beach is your perfect paradise. You have the choice of four beaches to lounge on, including Railay West, Ton Sai Beach, Phra Nang Cave Beach and Railay East.

Railay West

The main beach and where some of the best restaurants and cafes can be found. It is often times busier than the other beaches but has unreal views of the limestone cliffs and is the start of the Walking Street. Most of the island cruises depart and return here throughout the day so it’s definitely a side adventure you should look into!

Ton Sai

It’s much quieter than the other beaches because the close reefs and shallow water deter people from swimming and snorkeling. Rock climbing is one of the most popular activities for this beach with a variety of climbs from 5 to 8c difficulty.

Phra Nang Cave Beach

Near the southern tip of the peninsula, it’s more popular than Railay West during high season because it offers everything. There’s shallow, crystal clear water that’s perfect for swimming, two small nearby islands and caves to explore.

Railay East

A narrow beach that’s home to many local fishing boats. While it might not look similar to the other beaches, this is where the parties happen during high season. The care-free vibe is enjoyed by everyone while music is blasting and fruity cocktails are being made. Tew Lay, Joy’s and The Last Bar are only some of the few hot spots along the strip you can stop at.

Into the Jungle

The beaches offer some of the best views and nightlife in Thailand, along with tons of adventures from rock climbing and shopping to exploring the waters. But what if you want to change things up? Well, Railay Beach, Krabi isn’t just about beaches!

If you’re in for leg day, hiking to the Hidden Lagoon and Railay Beach Viewpoint is for you. It’s very important to note that this is NOT for everyone! The “hike” is more of a climb and is quite treacherous (especially to the hidden lagoon). When you reach the top of the viewpoint you’re rewarded with some amazing views of the area. If you found the climb to the viewpoint manageable then you could consider continuing to the hidden lagoon.

The hidden lagoon looks like something straight out of a movie. Take a look at these pictures to see for yourself! The difficulty in getting there also means it’s never crowded. Allot at least two hours for the hike to both spots (ensuring you’ll be back before sunset).

By now you can understand why Railay Beach, Krabi is what dreams are made of. The beaches are known world-wide for their beauty and offer so many other adventures! It’s the perfect destination for every traveler and will always leave you wanting more.

Reach New Heights in Krabi, Thailand

For most, Thailand is a vacation destination to chill on a beach all day while soaking up the sun. However, rock climbers will instantly think of the hundreds of climbing hotspots they want to hit up. Huge limestone cliffs are an iconic part of Krabi’s scenery and if you look closely, you’ll likely spot a few people scaling the giant landmarks. If this sparks your interest for a possible climbing adventure, then you’re in the right place! We’re sharing some of the top climbing spots in Krabi, Thailand along with other must-do bucket list activities.

Krabi, Thailand – Beginner Friendly

Even if you’re never rock climbed before, this can be your chance to try it out! This is a great place to learn how to rock climb. There are plenty of rock climbing schools that teach you the basics and you have the option of doing a group tour. You’ll always have someone nearby if you need any help or encouragement. While there are many options for beginner and intermediate climbers, there are also plenty of challenging climbs for pros.

Be Prepared

Unlike lounging on the beach with a fruity cocktail, rock climbing is physically demanding. It’s quite the workout, so make sure you’re comfortable with that required level of strength and fitness. If you’re going through a rock climbing school and guided tour, they’ll provide you with all the safety equipment that you’ll need. Although most people opt to climb without socks in their climbing shoes, for the rentals, you might want to wear a thin anklet sock for hygienic reasons.

Sunglasses aren’t mandatory, but with a lot of direct sunshine, they might be a good idea. Climbing all the way up a cliff and not being able to see the amazing view because the sun is in your eyes would be a bummer.

If you want to snap some photos, then bring a compact camera, or your smart phone. To avoid loss or damage make sure it’s in a durable case, and securely fastened to your harness. Attach a GoPro to your helmet if you you want an epic video to share later!

1. Viewpoint Railay Beach

One of the first things you’ll notice when you arrive in Railay Beach in Krabi is the towering cliffs that surround the area. While Railay is a world-famous destination for rock climbers with it’s giant pillars of limestone that extend into the sky, if you’re not so much into scaling up the dramatic cliffs, you may find hiking to the viewpoint to be more your cup of tea. The hike is just less than a kilometer, but it’s pretty strenuous and the view at the top is just WOW! Go for another 10 minutes or so onward and downward past the viewpoint to enjoy a saltwater lagoon.

2. Tab Kak Hang Nak Hill Nature Trail

If you love hiking and incredible views, then this hike, which claims to offer not just the best views in Krabi province, but in all of Thailand, will not disappoint. Round trip it’ll take about 6 hours, which includes an hour or so at the top to enjoy the scenery and snap a few photos. What awaits you at the summit is a spectacular view of the bay below and the plains. The hike is rated moderately difficult and is steep in parts, so you’ll need a good pair of shoes and lots of water to keep you hydrated on the climb up. We also recommend that you go earlier in the day when the heat is less intense.

3. PhraNang Cave

Up for some light cave exploration while in Krabi? Then a visit to PhraNang Cave, also called ‘Princess Cave’, located on the east side of Reiley Bay, will make for a great day trip. When you arrive at the PhraNang Cave you’ll be surprised to see that it’s actually a phallic shrine to a princess goddess. Fisherman use to come here to make offerings, which they believed would bring them good luck in their catch. The cave is situated on a stunning beach and it’s a great place to chill and spend the day.

4. Take a Krabi Sunrise or Sunset Cruise

We left this one for last because we believe it’s the most spectacular, and it’s sure to either start or cap off your day in just the perfect way! A Krabi sunrise or sunset tour will take you by wooden Siamese Junk out to the five islands – Poda, Tup, Si, Ta Ming, Wasam and Gai where you’ll spend the morning, or afternoon, swimming in bioluminescent waters, snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding while soaking up the sun and taking in the views of the break-taking surroundings.
