White Lotus Season 3 has arrived in Thailand, and when the first episode dropped on Sunday 16th February, our inbox exploded with questions about the red-sailed, junk-style boat that guests arrived in (which set the scene for their exotic stay.)
WAS IT OUR BOAT?
Traditional junk boats are iconic to Southeast Asia, and ours is no exception. Originally a trading vessel over 100 years ago, she journeyed across Southeast Asia, transporting goods. After decades of work across the seas, our Owners Carolyn and Michael adopted her, finally giving her the TLC she deserved and restoring the boat with a sympathetic ear to her history.
Her traditional design features a horseshoe-shaped stern and a high deck, giving her a classic, timeless charm. With a flat bottom and no keel, she relies on a big rudder or leeboard to glide smoothly over the waves.
Found more broadly today is a growing number of modern recreational junk-rigged sailboats and yachts, and we believe that was what we saw on the new series of the popular luxury travel series.

Can I take a sunset tour with the White Lotus Season 3 Thailand boat?
We’re huge White Lotus fans, and so as soon as those big red sails came into scene, we had suspicions around who they belonged to! The primary filming location for this season is the Four Seasons Resort in Koh Samui (Thailand’s second-largest island) Their site is renowned for its luxurious 43-acres, offering 60 teak villas, each equipped with private pools and expansive ocean views.
And so, it makes sense that the White Lotus boat was also based in the Koh Samui area. We’re led to believe that the ship in question is the Red Dragon classic Thai yacht – a semi-private sailing cruise that journeys around Samui’s marine park islands. While it’s not a traditional junk boat, the Red Dragon (like ours) provides a more luxurious take on the classic sunset cruise, offering relaxing cushions that are big enough to lay down and lounge throughout your tour.
