10 hidden romantic things to do in Krabi & Ao Nang for couples

For many, Thailand is a once in a lifetime trip, taking time out before a new life chapter, finally taking that adventure they’ve been saving for, or celebrating a special milestone. Every day we meet couples who have just arrived in Krabi, keen to hear what’s on offer (and often looking for romantic experiences to mentally screenshot for a lifetime.)

A quick search for ‘Romantic things to do in Krabi’ will often throw out a similar list each time; boat trips to Hong Island, The Tiger Cave, Railay Beach – all great things to see and do in the area, but no different to the usual list reserved for families, friends, and solo travellers too.

So, with that in mind, we’ve gathered a list of alternative romantic spots in Krabi – secluded romantic places in Ao Nang, and unique couple experiences in the area.

Watch the sunset on a luxury 2-floor boat trip by candlelight

There are so many longtail and speedboat tours to the 4 Islands of Krabi that it can be overwhelming knowing where to start! For a truly once-in-a-lifetime romantic experience, set sail on a private trip with an exclusive 100-year-old junk boat, designed for comfort & style designed.

Our rooftop has played host to a number of sunset proposals, and (during private tours) the Krabi Sunset Tour team love nothing more than setting the scene with a candlelit buffet dinner tailored to your vision.

Join a sunset yoga class together, harmonising your energies while enjoying Krabi’s magical and the setting sun. The team at Sunset Yoga Balance in Krabi welcome participants of all levels – leading them through a session emphasising physical and mental balance, followed by a peaceful meditation and relaxation segment.

Monkey trail adventure in Ao Nang

While we certainly meet our fair share of couples who simply want to slow down and see Krabi at a quieter pace, equally, we know plenty of couples who come to the province with a thirst for adventure! For a romantic adventure in Krabi, gather your day bag and embark on the Monkey Trail in Ao Nang. This route, starting at a bridge teaming with monkeys, leads up across a low cliff to a secluded beach where you can relax and enjoy cocktails while watching the sunset.

Take a Krabi cooking class with a TV Chef

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach – but when it comes to Thai food, we’d say it’s the way to a woman’s heart too. Join a Thai cooking class where you can learn and prepare traditional dishes together, culminating in a romantic meal you’ve crafted yourselves.

We recommend a cooking class with Ya’s Krabi Thai Cookery School – featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escapes!

Couple’s meditation, yoga, and wellness in a jungle setting

Take a step back from the busy main streets of Ao Nang and Krabi and share a peaceful experience learning mindfulness and reconnecting in a still environment. There are two relatively new centers with beautiful aesthetics (both of which double as accommodation amongst the rubber plants and trees.)

Na Sook Wellness, located near the pier in Ao Nam Mao, have a weekly Wellness Calendar Schedule, featuring activities designed to create a rhythm of balance and vitality. From yoga sessions to sound healing and Tempeh & Kombucha Workshops, there’s something to align with everyone’s goals and lifestyle.

Voasis Valley Krabi is a natural retreat center with an impressive mountain backdrop with a focus on yoga. Their sessions include Self-Care Routines, Hatha Vinyasa, and Feel Good Flow. They update their Voasis Valley Facebook Page regularly.

Visit the Klong Thom Hot Springs

Located about 70km from Krabi town, the Klong Thom hot springs are like natural hot tubs worn into the rock and channelling water from deep rooted thermal springs located in volcanic chambers. A short walk through the mangrove path takes you into the heart of a small rainforest preserve close to the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve. Here, you can bathe in the natural thermal pools surrounded by the jungle.

Explore Than Bok Khorani National Park

Just under an hour from Ao Nang, this beautiful national park space is often missed by those visiting Krabi in favour of the more obvious tourist locations. A favourite with the locals, it’s perfect on a hot and sticky day, with swimming opportunities in the serene natural pools and small waterfalls.

You’ll also find plenty of caves, pathways, and emerald pools to explore – some set against staggering mountain backdrops. It’s worth noting, there’s an entry fee for this park.

Pack a romantic picnic for Tonsai Beach

Tonsai is known to many as a rock-climbers paradise – you’ll find plenty of athletic travellers and locals honing their skills here across the complicated overhangs and tight rockfaces. However, this little beach is a quiet alternative to Railay, accessible via the jungle trail across the rock, around the sands at low-tide, or by private longtail.

Ask a local restaurant to pack up some of your favourite Thai food for takeaway and arrange a secluded beach picnic on one of the lesser-known beaches.

Stay in a luxury jungle villa with a private pool

When it comes to secluded jungle villas with private pools, Krabi has plenty of options! Though it’s worth keeping in mind that a lot of the privately-run offerings book up particularly quickly in high season. For couples looking for a day of total privacy and relaxation, hiring one (even if it’s just for a couple of nights) is a real treat.

For those looking to splurge on something special, we love the Banyan Tree Krabi. Each of its luxurious suites and villas has its own private pool, complete with tropical rainforest setting – the scent of fragrant gardens drifting past your door. The hotel chain boasts unrivalled service levels (with a flair for hosting honeymooners) and some of the most beautiful pool villas in Thailand. It’s a little out of the way (up near Dragon Crest Mountain), but worth the journey out of the town.

Visit Dragon Crest Mountain (Khao Ngon Nak) at sunrise or sunset

Speaking of Dragon Crest Mountain … Start your day early to hike together up Dragon Crest Mountain. Watching the sunrise from the summit, surrounded by panoramic views, makes for an awe-inspiring romantic moment. The trek is a long one (and not for the faint-hearted), the 7.2km return hike will takes around 4.5 hours to complete. However, the challenging route means the walk is missing the usual heavy crowds that often come with Krabi’s viewpoints and makes for a unique couple experience in Ao Nang.
